About Our Workshops
In a VFI workshop, participants join with facilitators for two hours each week to write together and share their writing. Group members can choose to read their writing aloud while the group listens thoughtfully and gives positive feedback. VFI facilitators, some of whom are previously incarcerated women themselves, type the women’s work and offer gentle editing suggestions. At the end of each workshop cycle, participants attend a completion ceremony and receive a certificate and a chapbook of the group’s collected work. Graduates read their work publicly for friends and family.
